This picture of Karen was taken in the early hours of 26th
March when she returned home from the 2002 IPC Awards Ceremony just after
she won the Young Journalist of the Year Award for her work at MiniWorld.
A pretty spectacular achievement considering that IPC is the biggest
consumer publishing group in the UK with loads of well known, big budget
magazines!
This is her award, unfortunately it doesn't look as good in
the photo as it does in real life as it's see-through and
reflective. She also received a cash prize.

Karen started her career in motoring journalism at Autocar, after
obtaining a degree in Media and Society at South Bank University,
London. During her time at Autocar she was runner up for the Young
Motoring Journalist of the Year award by the Guild of Motoring
Writers. She has been nuts about Minis since she bought her first
one at 17 and has always been an avid reader of MiniWorld. She
started working for the magazine in January 2001, fulfilling her first
ambition at the age of 23. Receiving this award for her work just
over a year later was totally unexpected.
On hearing the news of her award, MiniWorld Editor Monty Watkins said
"You deserve it, we love you", and Steve Cropley, Editor in Chief of Autocar said "that's really great news, and you really
deserve it!".
