Mini Cooper Register Rolling Road - 29th June 2002

Another Dyno day out at MiniSpeed with MiniWorld.  This was organised by Mel, Rover Cooper Registrar for the MCR.  The objectives were slightly different to the usual Dyno Days, in that Mel wanted to find standard cars rather than highly modified ones, in order to test them against the published Rover/John Cooper specifications.  We went along to watch, but Baby got roped in as an example of a MPI Cooper S, even though we're not MCR members and Baby is not technically a Cooper according to the MCR, although Mel is trying to changed all that by including all genuine John Cooper conversions in her register.

I haven't included pics of all the cars, mainly our friends from the net and their results.  There was one particularly interesting car, one of the original John Cooper prototypes which preceded the RSP 'S'.  Based on a 1275 Mayfair, this car had lots of the features of the previous Racing Green/Flame Red/Rose/Sky conversions, and who knows what else was under its bonnet!

Click on a pic to enlarge.

Sam (Cyclingnut) with his standard RSP Cooper.  This car managed 69bhp after a bit of tweaking. mcrrrsam1.jpg (34332 bytes) mcrrrsam2.jpg (35604 bytes)
Deano's RSP Cooper S.  He changed the airfilter back to the original spec before the test, but still achieved the same score as at the LSMOC rolling road (76).  Matt from MiniSpeed tried to tune it further (it had previously been tuned by Doddy) but it then scored less. mcrrrdean1.jpg (36894 bytes) mcrrrdean2.jpg (51332 bytes)
This was the JCG prototype S mentioned above.  A real piece of history.  Originally obtained a reading of 78, but they managed to get it to 81 after some tweaking. mcrrrprot1.jpg (38108 bytes) mcrrrprot3.jpg (39177 bytes)
Here's Binky having a go, with a nervous looking Maxine in the background.  Binky did himself proud and scored 63.5

Alice was lucky to make it to the rollers as she'd been in hospital having a new ECU after breaking down at Beaulieu a few weeks earlier.  She achieved an impressive 67+, although she does have an uprated exhaust and air filter. mcrrralice2.jpg (39603 bytes) mcrrralice1.jpg (46267 bytes)
Last but not least it was Baby's turn.  She achieved the same score as last time (80) but her emissions behaved themselves during the test.

Baby wasn't actually the last car to have a go, MiniSpeed decided to show off by demonstrating their Cooper Sport 500 with a 1480 engine - they claimed it would do 109.  It misbehaved itself and only achieved 87, much to the amusement of everyone there.
