Mini Cooper Register Rolling Road - 29th June 2002 Another Dyno day out at MiniSpeed with MiniWorld. This was organised by Mel, Rover Cooper Registrar for the MCR. The objectives were slightly different to the usual Dyno Days, in that Mel wanted to find standard cars rather than highly modified ones, in order to test them against the published Rover/John Cooper specifications. We went along to watch, but Baby got roped in as an example of a MPI Cooper S, even though we're not MCR members and Baby is not technically a Cooper according to the MCR, although Mel is trying to changed all that by including all genuine John Cooper conversions in her register. I haven't included pics of all the cars, mainly our friends from the net and their results. There was one particularly interesting car, one of the original John Cooper prototypes which preceded the RSP 'S'. Based on a 1275 Mayfair, this car had lots of the features of the previous Racing Green/Flame Red/Rose/Sky conversions, and who knows what else was under its bonnet! Click on a pic to enlarge. Baby wasn't actually the last car to have a go, MiniSpeed decided to show off by demonstrating their Cooper Sport 500 with a 1480 engine - they claimed it would do 109. It misbehaved itself and only achieved 87, much to the amusement of everyone there. |
