We have had |
Would Sputnik make it in time? Sputnik had been undergoing some pretty major body repairs after his accident on the way to the IMM in May. We had been promised he'd be back the week before the Job, but by the Wednesday afternoon he still hadn't returned from hospital. In the end we decided to go to Birmingham ourselves to pick him up. We arrived about 9.30 p.m.to find Sput still being worked on. Eventually they finished with him, but said he needed to come back for at least another day's work on our return to be finished off properly. They told us that they suspected there was a problem with his petrol gauge - great! We both had visions of us running out in the middle of nowhere, so made a note to take a spare can with us. We went straight to a petrol station and filled him and Baby up to the brim so we could test the guage out. While we were on the M25 Karen called me to ask what Baby's petrol dial was reading, she was on just under half full (although I suspect hers is not totally accurate as it very rarely reads full when she's just been filled up). Sput's gauge was reading empty at that time, so at least that gave us some reassurance that when it said empty he probably had half a tank left. Eventually we got home about 1.00 a.m. on the morning we were to leave. We still had to get Sput taxed the following morning, but luckily we'd checked out where the earliest opening post office was. Our packing was very untidy as it was a question of just stuff everything into Sput and tidy it up later - needless to say it got worse during the days to come. |
