Mm, Fruity This is the car Baby beat at Stanford! Baby with friends from SMOG

Only a few LSMOCers went to the Mini Cooper Register’s annual day out at Beaulieu, as it clashed with the MiniSpares Open Day.  Everyone told us it would rain (as it always does at Beaulieu) but we proved them wrong.  It bucketed down all day in London, but we had a glorious day!

We’d decided not to have a club stand, after being given a poor position in the past which had turned a lot of people off. I had not been before so at the last minute I decided to go with a couple of others from LSMOC and a few from SMOG (Sheppey Mini Owners Group). We had a good run down there, with the traditional stop for a McDonald’s breakfast in a motorway service station.

The show itself was not as big as I had expected, although there were, of course, a lot of really old Coopers there, which were really good to see. As is usual for me, it took ages to get out of the car parking area, there were so many nice cars to look at before we got into the show itself. Once in the show area I bought a few shiny bits for my car, and spent quite a lot of time looking at the Concours cars, which were pretty impressive.

One of the added bonuses of Beaulieu is that you get free entrance to the Motor Museum with your admission fee. Most people spent some time looking round there, and that is certainly worth a visit on its own.

The one thing that spoilt the show for me personally, was the fact that the event stickers we were given pictured the new BMW THING (I refuse to call it a Mini) - I haven’t stuck it in my car! I think a lot of people were quite upset by that, especially coming from a fairly traditionalist organisation like the Mini Cooper Register. There was also a THING on display, which attracted the interest of a lot of people seeing it for the first time. I had already seen it at the Motor Show last October, so I didn’t bother looking at it again!
